What is OSV fleet management software?

OSV fleet management software provides Technical Superintendents with fleet-wide oversight of maintenance compliance, DP status, class surveys and OVMSA readiness across PSV, AHTS and construction support vessel fleets.

OSV fleet management software is a maritime fleet management platform built for the specific operational and compliance requirements of offshore support vessel operators. It gives the Technical Superintendent, Fleet Manager and DPA a single system for managing maintenance status, DP compliance, class survey scheduling, certificate tracking, ISM documentation and OVMSA performance across a fleet of PSVs, AHTS vessels, construction support vessels, well stimulation vessels and other offshore-facing ship types. Unlike generic fleet management software adapted from merchant shipping, a purpose-built OSV fleet management platform accommodates the DP class structure, client vetting requirements and offshore project mobilisation workflows that define the OSV operating environment.

OSV operators compete for contracts on the basis of their technical management quality as well as their vessel specifications. An oil and gas operator selecting vessels for a deepwater drilling campaign will assess the vessel operator’s OVMSA rating, DP incident history, PSC performance, maintenance compliance rate and ISM audit findings before committing to a contract. Fleet management software that maintains these records in a consistently auditable format — and that makes it easy to produce the documentation package an offshore client needs for their vessel approval process — is part of the commercial infrastructure of a competitive OSV business.

Fleet-level maintenance compliance monitoring

For the Technical Superintendent managing a fleet of 8 to 15 OSVs, the central challenge of fleet management is maintaining oversight of maintenance compliance across all vessels simultaneously. Each vessel has its own maintenance schedule, its own outstanding work orders, its own upcoming class survey milestones and its own DP maintenance programme. Fleet management software that aggregates this information into a fleet-level dashboard — showing maintenance compliance rate by vessel, outstanding overdue tasks, upcoming survey due dates and certificate expiry alerts across the entire fleet — allows the superintendent to allocate attention systematically rather than reactively.

DP incident tracking and IMCA reporting

DP incidents — losses of position or heading, drive-offs, field failures and unplanned DP mode changes — must be documented in accordance with IMCA M 166 and reported to the IMCA DP incident database. Client operators may impose their own DP incident reporting requirements in addition to IMCA standards. OSV fleet management software that captures DP incident reports in a structured format, routes them for review and sign-off, and aggregates DP incident statistics across the fleet gives the Technical Director and DPA the information needed to manage DP safety performance proactively.

Spare parts and supply chain for offshore operations

Spare parts management for an OSV fleet is dominated by the challenge of supplying critical spares to vessels operating at offshore locations days from shore. A PSV or AHTS vessel on a 28-day rotation in a remote deepwater field cannot easily receive emergency spare parts deliveries. Pre-mobilisation inventory checks, critical spare identification for each contract type and consumption tracking during offshore deployments are all essential components of OSV spare parts management. Fleet management software that connects spare parts inventory to the maintenance schedule — flagging upcoming maintenance that will require parts currently below minimum stock — prevents the supply chain failures that cause maintenance delays offshore.

How STAR Suite™ supports OSV fleet management

STAR Suite™ provides OSV fleet operators with a fleet management platform that covers the full scope of offshore support vessel technical management — maintenance, DP compliance, class surveys, certificate management, OVMSA documentation and spare parts — in a single integrated system. Fleet managers have real-time oversight; vessels maintain compliance records continuously for client vetting and PSC inspection.
