PSV maintenance management software is a planned maintenance and compliance management system configured for the operational and technical requirements of platform supply vessels (PSVs) — the workhorses of offshore oil and gas logistics that continuously supply drilling platforms and production installations with cargo, fuel, water, chemicals, dry bulk and equipment. PSVs operating alongside deepwater floating installations operate in DP mode, maintaining position relative to the installation while loading and discharging cargo. DP reliability during these operations is critical: a drive-off or loss of position during a cargo transfer alongside a drilling rig can cause a serious incident. DP system maintenance on a PSV — thrusters, power management, position reference systems, sensors — must be maintained to a higher standard of documentation and compliance than most other equipment on board, and the maintenance system must support this by giving DP maintenance the same structured tracking and completion documentation as class survey items.
The cargo deck is the operational core of a PSV. Deck cranes, cargo handling equipment, chemical injection systems, dry bulk handling systems, fire water monitors and ROV support equipment all require maintenance programmes that reflect their operational intensity. A PSV on a North Sea supply contract may use its deck crane dozens of times per week. A maintenance system that schedules crane inspections, wire rope replacements and hydraulic system services on the basis of actual operational cycles — rather than fixed calendar intervals that do not reflect the intensity of use — is more effective at preventing failures than a schedule based on time alone.
Major oil and gas operators who charter PSVs on long-term contracts increasingly impose their own maintenance standards and audit requirements on top of class and flag state obligations. A PSV operator whose maintenance records are organised in a structured, auditable CMMS can respond to client audits and requests for maintenance documentation without significant administrative burden. A PSV operator managing maintenance through paper logs and spreadsheets faces a significant compliance preparation challenge each time a client requests a technical review.
